With its vast landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and rich culture, the world's second-largest continent Africa is one for the bucket-list. Consisting of 54 countries, Africa covers six percent of our Earth's total surface area and with 1.1 billion people (as of 2013) it accounts for 15% of the world's population. The continent hosts a large range of ethnicities, cultures and languages. With a strong history and considered by most paleoanthropologists to be the oldest inhabited territory on earth, this is a continent for the history buffs.
